Oral Hygiene

Often a problem during orthodontic treatment is oral hygiene. We strive in our office to reinforce good oral hygiene habits and to teeth the proper methods of brushing, flossing and use of a fluoride.

It is up to our patients to take the knowledge we convey and put it to good use. We cannot come home with every patient and make sure they are following the rules of good hygiene, but we do use our time in the office to to check and make sure that good hygiene is being followed. If you do not accompany your child to his/her appointment then we will send a note home updating you on their progress. Please do not be offended if we inform your child that their brushing is sub-par, we only want the best for them and our results will be so much better if hygiene is good.

We have in the office products that will assist the patient with their oral hygiene. When they start they are given a kit that contains everything they need. The supplies in this kit can be replaced in our office - just ask.

We also carry prescription fluoride which is often recommended for patients who have trouble with brushing. If an assistant feels that a patient needs an extra boost to help prevent enamel decalcification they will inform you at the appointment. The cost of fluoride is $10.

We recommend Sonicare products and carry an array of them in the office. Please feel free to browse our selection the next time you are in the office.
